The secretary to the Nuncio of the Holy See, priest Michele Bianchi (pseudonym Alberto Vimina, 1603–1667) worked in Warsaw in 1648–1651, lived in Sweden in 1653, and visited Russia as an envoy from Venice in 1655. He described his travels in the work The History of Polish Civil Wars, Divided into Five Books. In it, he compares the policies of the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth, Russia, and Sweden, gives information about the life of the Polish and Lithuanian society of the time, and provides and overview of the war between the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Ukrainian Cossacks (1648–1654), also known as the Bohdan Khmelnytsky Uprising. The book also describes the actions of the Russian army in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania at the beginning of the war of 1654–1667.
