Aeneas Silvio Piccolomini, Pope Pius II, composed the geographical historical work The Most Elegant Description of Asia and Europe. The book was first published in 1477 in Venice under the title Historical Description of Various Places and Events (Historiarum ubique gestarum locorumque descriptio). Later the work was published under different titles (Cosmographia; Opera; Asiae Europaeque elegantissima descriptio) and published in Paris (1509, 1534), Cologne (1531), and Basel (1551, 1571). The book includes information about the Grand Duke of Lithuania Vytautas, and the customs and religion of the local inhabitants. The 1543 edition from Paris is bound with the work Description of Asia, Africa, and Europe (Asiae, Africae, Europaeque descriptio) by the Swiss historian Heinrich Glarean (1488–1563).
